Image Science now offers a print embossing (AKA 'print chop' or print marking) service.
Two options:
The Image Science Mark on a print certifies to your clients that your prints have been prepared and hand checked by print makers using only the absolute highest quality processes and materials available in the world today.
The mark itself is an embossed image of our logo that is a very subtle and classy embellishment to the print. It is usally placed in the lower left hand corner of the page, but can also be placed under or in the printed image (anywhere within about 8cm from the paper edge). See example below. Much like a watermark, it does not draw attention to itself but is present to subtly show to clients that all care has been taken in the production of the print.
The cost to cover the extra time and handling for this service is $2 per sheet print or $5 per roll print.

(If your monitor is not calibrated properly it can be hard to see the mark, try turning your brightness down and/or contrast up,
or better yet buy a better monitor and calibrator!)
About Our Logo
Our logo is a visual play on important image making elements - in particular the 6 'spokes' or 'petals' represent the additive and subtractive primary colours, deep understanding of the relationship of which is critical to modern fine art print making. The logo shape itself represents an iris in a camera lens, a key tool in defining and capturing the cricitcal moment. The slight tilt to the final wheel shape reflects the progressive nature of our business, and indeed printmaking itself.
We can facilitate the production of your own embossing plate for use with our press here. The embossing plates we use are made from brass and very robust - they should last a lifetime. The fee to have a set of plates made is $495. They are designed for marking 300 gsm fine art paper, but work well with paper 200 gsm and up, and with other materials like canvas as well. They are circular with a diameter of 48mm.

Embossing Plates
To have your own embossing seal made, you will need to supply appropriate artwork in black and white TIF format, (use this Photoshop template file for help setting this up). It's best to stay away from the edges, particularly with any sharp corners. Once we have your artwork the plate makers will review it for suitability and let you know if they expect any issues with your design before they make the chop.
Once we have your embossing plate stored here we can then mark your prints as we make them for you, this of course works very well with our Store and Print Service.
(You are welcome of course to take your chop with you if you choose - we facilitate the proces of having it made, but the plate obviously belongs to you because you're paying for it - we simply store and use it on an 'all care but no formal responsibility' basis).
After the initial $495 set up & plate making fee, the cost to cover the extra time and handling for this service is $2 per sheet print or $5 per roll print.
