High quality art reproduction capture work is one of the most technically challenging tasks around - but done well it can make a huge difference in your potential as an artist to make a real living from your work.
Only high resolution photography allows you to properly light each piece individually for the best effect and most accurate results - whether you want all the texture from the original work, or a more flat reproduction, photography beats scanners with their fixed, flourescent light sources every time. More about why we use photography here.

Our photographic reproduction services combine our usual superb quality & attention to detail with affordable prices. We produce stunning high resolution, print ready digital files from your works - which we will supply to you - we're not one of those shonky places that won't supply you with the digital files you've paid for!

You bring or send your unframed artworks to Image Science (preferably more than one as it's much cheaper for you to have multiple works done at a time). Note the pricing below is for normal sized works - if your works are over 1m in size (either dimension), then special pricing/conditions apply and it's probably best to ring us for a chat about this.
We'll prepare the digital files from your work all the way to ready to print ready form - clean of any marks, dust etc, and with good colour (see notes below).
Typical turn-around for the capture and file preparation work is approximately one work week.
We can put you in touch with photographers specialised in art reproduction work on location. Once you have your digital files from them, you can then visit us to discuss the rest of the process!

Digital photography (using a Phase One back) is one of the most colour accurate techniques for art reproduction in general and results in most scenarios are very good. However there are a great many variables in this process - it is definitely NOT a case of 'click and print'. The standard fees include capture and basic cleaning and colour work plus you can order an A4 proof print of the results. Most works will be ready to go at this point, however some works may require special attention following this stage to achieve the desired result.
As a general rule, it's much easier to reproduce images with lots of colours (continuous tone imagery, such as photography or multicoloured artwork) - and harder to reproduce individual spot tones (as used in graphic pieces) very precisely. As with all things in life, it is a balance between the time/cost involved and need for extreme accuracy.
Retouching/colour work beyond the typical service is charged at $80/hour. But in most cases it isn't needed or it's only a half hour or so required.
Because a set up is made for each scenario, there is an initial set up cost.
The basic costs for original pieces that are A2 size or smaller (approximately 60 by 40cm or smaller) and not behind glass.

Once you have your high quality Image Science digital files, you're ready to make some beautiful archival reproduction prints. We can make little prints, big prints, canvasses, reproduction on fabrics like silk and linen - you name it.
We use only the very finest archival materials available- the best pigment inks on the planet, with the most beautiful archival papers. With 10 years experience at the highest level, our services are well known and trusted - we do this sort of work for some very serious artists who charge 6 figure sums for originals and 5 figures for reproductions....so that's a sign we take quality very seriously and we know how to produce works that your clients, and galleries & museums and the like, are looking for.
More information about our printing service can be found under the Fine Art Printing menu above - if you're not technically inclined though, you can also simply contact or visit us (by appointment) and we can show you some samples, discuss sizing etc, and prepare all the prints per your instructions.
We look forward to working with you!
