Custom Fabric Printing

Image Science offers short run digital fabric printing on beautiful 100% natural fabrics.

Full information about this service can be found below.

We receive a lot of very basic enquiries about fabric printing - so please read this page in full, and...

... PLEASE DO TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING POINTS BEFORE YOU CONTACT US:

We can only print on the specially treated fabrics listed below!
i.e. we can not print on client supplied fabrics.

This service is intended for designers and image makers - our file set up notes are clear and simple.  If you do not have digital imaging skills sufficient to follow these notes, you should find a friend of colleague to help you with this.

Sorry, but there is no scope for further discount for any quantities,
even very large ones - the technology we use is specifically designed for short runs and the pricing is already extremely lean for this service.

Our Fabrics

We've chosen three popular options that should suit most short run fabric purposes:

  • Lowlands Linen - a gorgeous 100% Belgian linen, this has a lovely thick weave.  Suitable for all applications where you want a textured material look.  Also a great alternative to canvas for art prints and some art reproduction purposes.

  • China Silk - 100% pure habatoi silk, soft, translucent and flowy as only silk can be!  Works best with lighter colour images/patterns.

  • Cotton - 100% Cotton with a lovely soft feel.  Sheeting type material, good for general purpose where you want a smooth finish but perhaps the least interesting in its own right.

  • Canvas - canvas printing falls under our fine art printing services.

  • We can not print on client supplied fabrics.

General Notes

The print quality is very good - suitable for all craft purposes (of course it's not quite the same level as our fine art printing which you should use if you're looking for an archival premium quality print).

All the fabrics offer good water resistance and are hand washable in cold water - they're not designed for use in day to day 'wash and wear' scenarios, but they are quite robust in general.

Printed samples are of course available at our office for viewing.

Possible uses include:

  • Art Prints
  • Soft Furnishings
  • Custom Dress Making (e.g. wedding gowns)
  • Scarves
  • Suitable for short runs for designers and independent labels
  • Bags & Satchels
  • Cushion Covers
  • Seat & Other Furniture Covers
  • Light Shades
  • Custom Book Binds
  • Fabric Wall Panels
  • Bed Heads
  • ....Anything you can think of!

How To Order Fabric Prints

We can print any properly prepared digital image files - including illustrations, photos and patterns.

All our fabrics are printed on 112cm wide rolls (technically 44 inches or 111.7cm), and are available and priced in 0.5m running increments.  The safe printing width of this roll is 100cm, image in the 6cm either side border areas may have imperfections and marks so make sure your important content sits inside the 100cm safe printing zone.

When you receive your fabric, it will have a paper backing on it for easier handling & cutting.  You just slowly peel this off when you're ready, and once removed you should steam set the inks for the very best colour longevity (just use a standard steam iron set to the appropriate temperature for the fabric type).

Please follow our notes on:

Pricing

Pricing is as follows - remember all prints are done on 44" (~112cm) rolls and the safe printing area is one metre wide - we can't guarantee the quality of the print outside of the 1m area:

  • $45 per half running metre (i.e. the toal price is $45 per each 1m by 0.5m printed section, including the fabric).
  • The price is the same for silk, linen or cotton.

Notes On What You Will Receive

... like all natural materials, there may be some variance and minor flaws in the final result - much like it says on your jeans, these flaws are actually part of the beauty of natural materials and should be embraced rather than feared!

The paper backing is there to help us handle the fabric while printing, and is designed to be removed, and does not form part of the finished product as such.  You will receive instructions on how to remove the paper backing and set the inks on your prints (both of which are very simple and need only a normal iron).
