Why we can't upload your full size scan files

It's all about the 'A' in ADSL.

It stands for 'asychronous' and what it means in practise is that we our internet connection offers very fast downloads (in practise we can get up to about 2 MB/s) but very slow uploads (at best about 150kb/s but more typically about 100 kb/s in practise).

We're actually only about 300m from the North Melbourne phone exchange so our internet is as stable and as fast as and DSL connection can be, and we do uses Internode with Annex M for faster uploads....but the fact remains that the sort of file sizes we generate here (minimum 50Mb and usually 200 Mb plus, right up to 1GB or more!) - take literally hours and hours to upload, per file.  And doing these very long, slow uploads, causes a significant impact on our downloads and other internet traffic (like post bookings, online order processing etc), which slows the whole business.

Thus, unfortunately, we can not upload your high resolution scans.  You are welcome to come and pick them up as soon as they are ready (we send you a text if you're local), or we can book express post in for you.

This will of course change if/when the NBN rolls past our building.  If you've been wondering who will benefit from such a service - it's us, and our clients - it will open up significant opportunities for us.  Maybe not worth the $35 billion dollar cost, or whatever it is, on it's own - but if it's coming anyway, we'll certainly find it useful when it gets here!
