X-Rite i1Dsiplay Pro support in third party applications like SpectraView and ColorNavigator

X-Rite have publicly stated the licensing for the new i1Display Pro calibrator - by all reports easily the most accurate calibrator on the market and the first really significant development in monitor calibrators in years - will support use of the device in third party applications, such as direct hardware calibration packages like SpectraView and ColorNavigator - that is, it will be licensed in much the same was as the Eye One Display 2 was, so likely any package that supported the ED2 will (if it is still being developed) soon be updated to support the new i1Display Pro (also known as the i1Display 3).  Of course nothing is official until the companies involved put something in writing but informally all the signs to us have been that support will be forthcoming within the next couple months (I'd guess October or so).  (We have seen emails from NEC to customers stating they expect to support the device in the coming months so that one is pretty much a given).

Indeed, in the case of Mac OSX Lion, support for the i1Display Pro may well come more quickly than support for the old ED2 which is hampered by the fact it needed Rosetta for its drivers.  Updates for those drivers are expected around September - you can find info on this via this page.
