About Image Science
Since 2001, Image Science has been offering digital imaging products, services and expertise to photographers and printers around Australia.
Our goal is to become partners with our clients in the creation of beautiful images and world class prints.
The 4 key things that make us different:
- Detailed Knowledge (and an open attitude to sharing that knowledge - does any other imaging business in Australia have a Knowledge section like ours?)
- Real World Experience (we use all the products we sell on a daily basis)
- Attractive Pricing (we have low overheads by not having a large piece of commercial real-estate to support, and we simply work harder because we're small business owners, not large business employees!)
- Fantastic Personal Service (see below to find out who we are!)
You can use us by mail order, or drop-off/pick up in Melbourne (please call for an appointment!).
We aim to be an extremely helpful and open business and we're always happy to discuss any special needs you might have, bulk rates, and offer general imaging advice. So, get in touch and give us a try!
The Friendly Faces at Image Science
Image Science is a family run business, and currently has four members of staff (and one baby) - all are very friendly and will be happy to help you in any way they can.
Jeremy Daalder - Director
I created Image Science in March of 2001, as a side business to my photography. Over time Image Science has grown far beyond its humble beginnings and has become my main area of business. While I still do some commercial photography, the greater proportion of my time is now spent in helping others achieve their goals in imaging, through the provision of quality services and the supply of the most beautiful materials available in the world today.
A significant proportion of my time is spent in teaching, both privately to photographers, printers and studios, and at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), where I teach the Digital Fine Print course as part of the Commercial and Illustrative Photography degree program.
I have a clear philosophy on image making that I teach and work by, resting on two basic ideas. The first is that pre-visualisation and clear thinking about subject is of paramount importance in achieving your image making goals. The second is that mastery of craft (and use of the very best materials) forms the basis of good artistic expression. Without knowing what you want to achieve, and without learning and practicing the technical skills required to achieve it, you will never produce what you hope for.
Image Science has earned itself a real reputation for quality, value and exceptional levels of service, and this is very important to me. I believe that a business such as this thrives on co-operation with its clients, on an open and helpful attitude, and on good humour. I like to think our clients really enjoy their time working with us, and that we provide excellent value to them. Many of our clients have been with us since the beginning and have become good friends. We look forward to many more years of working together!
(P.S. Don't expect to see me in a suit when you come visit us - one of the nice things about owning your own business is you can relax a little in your own office!!)
Amy Daalder - Director
Amy joined Image Science in March 2006 (although she was helping out for many years before this around the edges of her busy career!). When not scanning, printing, or printer profiling, she focuses her efforts on the business side of Image Science - marketing, retail and the financials.
Her legendary expertise in Excel, and her keen attention to detail, are skills much appreciated in the office here. As are all the yummy lunches she makes, the cups of tea, her sunny disposition, and her willingness to laugh at my jokes. She even puts up with my taste in music, AND lets me buy expensive electronic toys!
Her background is in marketing, having previously held positions including Circulation Marketing Manager for the Herald Sun, and Marketing Manager for Repco Australia. She's won all sorts of industry awards, too!
Amy was nice enough to marry me on October 7th, 2006. This made me happy.
Leyna Jessie Daalder - Chief Babbler
Leyna Jessie Daalder (pronounced 'Lane-ah') is 10 months old at time of writing and just like in the photo she's a wonderfully cheerful little girl. She's quite close to walking already (furniture surfing is her favourite activity), and she loves avocado on toast!
'Leyna' is an old Russian word for 'bright and shining light'. It's also apparently an old German word for little angel. So far she is living up to her name!
Kylie Paxevanos - Office Manager
Kylie joined Image Science in April 2008 as our new office all rounder / receptionist / retail manager - bascially, she's the engine of the company.
She's very quickly become a valued member of the team and is bringing new levels of efficiency to all our operations.
Photo to come if she ever sits still long enough for me to take one!
Phil 'Digital Lightning' Tanner - Technical Manager
Phil joined Image Science in the middle of 2005, coming in several days a week to help us out.
Phil is our chief retoucher, and is also responsible for scanning and printer profiling and whatever else needs to be done around the place!
His good humour, fine eye, and constant efforts to improve processes have made him a valuable addition to the Image Science team. In return, we supply limitless cups of tea. And coffee. Basically, we're feeding his caffeine addiction to keep him on the ball.
He's so careful and consistent in his work, we're almost tempted to forgive him for coming from Essex. Almost.
