Quickie End Of Year Image Science Update!

Quick End Of Financial Year Update!

This time just a few new things that didn't quite make it in time for our last update.

Last Minute Deals! Valid Only Till June 30th!

The end of the financial year is almost upon us, so now is the best time possible to get some new hardware - remember if it's below $1000 you may be able to write the whole lot off in one year, and if it's above you at least get some of the write off pretty much straight away! Even if we don't have a particular item in stock when you place your order we can supply you with a Pro-Forma invoice for payment so you can lock the tax invoice into your FY 07/08.

These deals will not be repeated, and are only available for orders made and paid for by the 30th of June. And please order by phone as we're not updating the web site with these deals!

X-Rite Colour Munki Photo

X-Rite (formerly Gretag Macbeth/Monaco) have just released an exciting new calibrator called the Colour Munki. Inside it has a full spectrophotometer (based on the excellent and much more expensive Isis technology) - this is the first time a full spectrophotometer has been available at anything like this price.

This device can calibrate monitors AND printers. And it does both with incredible ease - I had both a monitor and high quality printer profile made less than 20 minutes after installing the software - it's super easy to use and fast!

If you're the sort of person that likes to take control of your processes, there's never been a more affordable option for easy colour calibration of your entire workflow! Only $645 and in stock now.

Affordable, Aftermarket Monitor Hoods

Eizo make some beautiful monitor hoods, but they have one disadvantage - they cost $300. Not surprisingly an enterprising Chinese company has come along and produced an excellent and far cheaper alternative. They're very similar to the real thing in performance and style, and at only $129 an utter bargain.

Archival, Crystal Clear Bags For Prints

We've just started importing a lovely range of crystal clear, archival plastic bags, perfectly sized for popular print sizes in Australia (A4, A3, A3+, A2, 17 by 22, and the AIPP standard mount size of 16 by 20 inches).

These bags are made from super clear, totally inert polypropylene and look very slick. Minimum order is 5 bags, but the 100 packs are the cheapest way to go.

Image Science At The AIPP Awards

It would be fair to say at pretty much every major photographic awards ceremony in the country in recent times, we've played a significant part. Typically we've printed or retouched or supplied profiles for a significant number of the award winning images. And we've just done so again for the AIPP awards - and this time the award won was a biggie - the Canon AIPP Professional Photographer Of The Year.

An Image Science Custom Profile was used by photographer George Trifunovic of Ardmillan Studios to print Mercury Megaloudis' Canon AIPP Photographer Of The Year Portfolio.

The images were printed on Hahnemuhle's beautiful Albrecht Durer paper. George's print set up is based on an Eizo monitor and an Epson printer.

We don't like to toot our own horn too loudly, but this is of course evidence that the materials and equipment we sell, the services we offer, and the techniques we advocate and teach, are being used by the very best of the Australia's professional image makers to produce work of the very highest level of quality!

Our sincerest congratulations to Mercury on his well deserved win!

(And of course to the many other Gold/Silver award winning photographers who used our profiles/papers/printing service as well!)

Viv Mehes Exhibition: Made In Australia

Over the past few weeks we have been working closely with Viv Mehes on her new and very powerful exhibition Made In Australia about the plight of asylum seekers in Australia. Viv is a lovely lady and her work is wonderfully expressive, we encourage you all to go and see it. The prints (more than 80, forming only part of the show) were made by us on Museo Portfolio Rag.

Without wanting to get overly political it seems to me there has been a lot of talk lately about asylum seekers but very little action. Some of these people have had to wait years - more than a decade even in some cases - for any resolution to their situation, with no access to medicare, and no right to work or study while they wait. Unquestionably this is a complex issue but I think that no matter how complex, resolutions can and should be found far quicker than this!

There is an article in The Age about this exhibition that is worth reading, and the exhibition is on display at The Foyer, 1 Spring Street, Melbourne until July 11.

Five Seven Photos - A Photographic Collective

Five Seven are a new photographic collective - could they be Australia's answer to Magnum?

The group features several of my former students from RMIT and they're about to have a big exhibition (we helped out with some heavily discounted Museo Silver Rag). Here's their blurb:

FiveSeven Photos, Melbourne's newest photo agency, specialises in documentary style photography. FiveSeven's members are Cara Bowerman, Drew Echberg, Aurore Harden and Kristian Scott, all of whom graduated last year from the photojournalism stream of RMIT University's BA Photography degree. The fifth member, David Head, has continued on at RMIT for an honours year this year.

As well as acting as a vehicle to promote our work, pool resources, and attract editors, FivenSeven aims to raise the profile of the medium of documentary photography in Australia by attracting viewers to their website and by holding regular exhibitions.

FiveSeven's launch exhibition will take place at Collingwood Gallery (292 Smith Street, Collingwood) from June 28 to July 10, 11am - 6pm Tues - Sat; 12pm-5pm Sun. The exhibition, to be opened by award winning journalist and Big Issue editor Alan Attwood on Friday June 27, will feature selected works from a number of series from each FiveSeven member.

We're selling 14 Purcell Street

We are soon selling our house at 14 Purcell St North Melbourne 3051. Image Science was run out of the bottom level of this building until a few months ago.

This means that you must not send any orders to this address or use the old phone number - please take a moment to make sure your have our up to date contact details!

14 Purcell St was the site we really built the business from - we grew there from a single person business to the much busier office we have now. Many of you visited us there - and a lot of your expressed interest in the property. It's unusual in having an entire level of flexible office/studio space - 10m by 5m of space, so quite a substantial area (with lovely wood floors and nice neutral walls!).

Above the office/studio space is a very nice house with two large architecturally designed bedrooms, two generous balconies, a bathroom and a separate powder room and laundry, and a lovely kitchen area leading into the living area. All the living area is open plan and very pleasant. The building has a lovely established courtyard garden (which is also a car space), and faces due north so is lovely and bright (and because it is brick it's very easy to keep it warm in winter and cool in summer!).

North Melbourne is a truly superb place to live and work, so if you happen to be interested in the property, we are selling through Troy at W B Simpson, his number is (03) 9328 1213. We're expecting a lot of interest in the property as ones like this don't come up too often - if you have any interest at all give Troy a call and he'll be happy to register your interest and arrange a viewing soon!

That's it!

Cheers, hope life is treating you very well indeed, and hope to see you soon,

Jeremy and Amy Daalder
