Image Science August 2005 Update
Hello
Just a quick bit of news this time - I was writing a longer update but its so long its really become an article, so it will go up on the site in a week or two. It's all about hardware - what screens to buy, how to get your machine to run Photoshop faster, that sort of thing.
First things first - I'd like to belatedly welcome Phillip 'Digital Lightning' Tanner to the Image Science team. Phil is a landscape photographer and retouching artist who is going to be helping us out from now on for a day or two a week (or more as necessary!). He'll be helping out on the scanning, profiling and retouching fronts, bringing with him the same keen eye for quality that is the foundation of Image Science services.
Retouching Services - One of the major things Phil's arrival brings to Image Science is a lot more available time for retouching, so if you're looking for a more complete service where your images are scanned and then completely retouched into polished, print ready form, then we can now help. Lately I just haven't had time for this sort of work and I know a lot of you are keen to spend less time behind the computer and more time in the field, so if we can help you out by taking some of the burden from you, just let us know! Phil does great work, on a colour calibrated system, so you'll be able to take your files directly from us to a high quality lab (eg Pixel Perfect) and get beautiful prints made, ready for sale (or just enjoyment!). Or of course you can also have them printed here on lovely fine art papers. Full details on the retouching here.
Profiles and what they're actually doing - I've recently written some more extensive notes on how to use and evaluate profiles, and also what a profile actually is, so if you're interested you can read them by clicking here. The new info is past the usage instructions (ie how to soft proof and print with a profile), towards the bottom (the notes are written as a trouble shooting guide but will be interesting to anyone who wants to know a little more about the inner workings of printer profiles).
The Ultimate Colour Package - this is a new package for people wanting a real leg up on Colour Management. It includes an Eye One Display V2, two custom profiles, and a full days course (at your site!) on Colour Management, Fine Art Digital Printing and Photoshop. The course is custom-tailored to your exact needs and uses your equipment, so that at the end of the day you will not only have more knowledge but will also be able to see real, tangible improvements in your printing (if you already have a screen calibrator then we can still offer the training and profiles at a reduced rate). Full details here.
CMYK Profiling - I've recently visited with Gretab Macbeth and learnt a lot more about CMYK profiling, so if you're in need of CMYK profiles (say you're having a series of cards printed etc), why not give me a ring for a chat about it? We've got all the equipment required to produce excellent profiles for CMYK machines, including the newer POD (Print-On-Demand) machines, and can really help you achieve much higher quality results. That's it for this time!
Look forward to seeing you soon and happy image making 'till then!
Cheers
