Fine Art Inkjet Paper
Canson / Arches are two brands of a famous French paper company (Arjo Wiggins) that has been making beautiful papers for literally hundreds of years (in fact since just a few years after the printing press was invented!). They have recently released their Digital Art and Photo range, made with their original papers/canvases, now with inkjet coatings. They offer the modern photographer some uniquely beautiful new printing options.
These papers are the same papers used by artists like Matisse and Picasso - simply adapted for inkjet printing. Their beauty and quality is proven by the fact that pretty much all major art galleries in the world hold works made with these materials.
While not yet as established in the inkjet market as Hahnemuehle or Crane, their coatings are very high quality and their products are really superb, offering a number of interesting and traditional textures not available in other ranges - very handy if you're trying to reproduce artworks, or looking for a bit more impact from your papers.
Canson Canvas in particular is a real stand out product - far superior to any other canvas we have seen. It has to be printed on to be believed - photographic yet still a canvas, deep rich blacks, totally stretchable and VERY robust, if you're looking for a canvas to print on, we seriously recommend you try this one.

Canson Canvas - Amazing true canvas for inkjet printers
Canson Canvas is a wonderful product that combines a truly photographic inkjet coating with a true artists canvas. The canvas is a true cotton artists canvas weighing in at 340 gsm. Completely acid and optical brightener free, for truly archival results. You can stretch this paper just as with normal canvas. The coating is matte, but you can varnish with classic gel mediums if you desire brush stroke or smooth varnish effects. This canvas is amazingly robust - it is very difficult to produce scuff marks with pigment inks even with regular handling.

Information on varnishing/lacquering:
Canson Canvas does not need a final coating - it is extremely robust just as printed. I've had work up in a nursery for several years now, in high traffic areas, and the prints still look great despite extensive handling, spot cleaning, and a generally moist and grubby environment. So if you like the matte finish, you should find it is more than up to the job as is - of course, as always, do your own testing to see if the product meets your exact needs.
Canson Canvas can of course also be coated to provide it with further protection from the elements or from passing traffic - or indeed, simply because you want a gloss or satin finish rather than a matte finish.
The best coatings available are made by PremierArt. These coatings are the only ones certified by Wilhelm Imaging to be be archival with Epson Ultrachrome Inks.

Canson PhotoSatin
Instant drying semi-gloss paper with excellent gamut and strong blacks. Excellent resistance to marking. Extremely sharp.
This paper is a much nicer alternative to papers like Ilford Smooth Pearl and Epson Premium SemiGloss. It's lower level of sheen gives it a far classier appearance and the print quality it offers is second to none in this domain - sharp, punchy, yet still capable of very sublte results. It's priced very competitively and is the perfect paper for classic portrait, wedding and album work.
It's so good we've made it one of our core printing papers at Image Science and we personally use it for all our day to day photo printing.
