Colour - PDI Printer Test File (PhotoDisc printer test)
This is a handy file to test your printer with. It's a 1.1 Mb download though - no problem on cable or ADSL, but will take a few minutes over a modem. This file includes instructions for evaluating the printed output. If in doubt, send or bring the file to us - we'll compare it to the thousands of other samples we've seen and let you know how well your printer is doing.

Black and White - Extreme Step and Resolution Chart
I was sent this printer test file and it's very handy for testing black and white printing systems. It's perhaps a little exterme - devotes too much of it's space to tones in the bottom and top 5 percent of the tonal range and not enough to mid-tone progression. Don't be surprised if your printing system can't achieve separation in ALL the steps - this is a pretty extreme test! If you can achieve good separation at 95% and over you'll find that you will achieve good prints in practise (especially if you're using a black and white ICC profile which will allow you to accurately soft proof your files before you print).
